“No one would have crossed the ocean if he could have gotten off the ship in the storm.”
After driving through the storm, we entered the state park to find our cabin. For those of you not familiar with state parks, most of them have a long densely wooded road leading to the campground. Due to the temperature difference between the road and the rain, there was steam coming off the road were were on.
When we made it to the parking area for the cabins, we noticed a sign that read “No motorized vehicles beyond this point,” meaning that we had to carry all our gear (#targettotebags) to the cabin. We walked and walked …. it felt like such a long walk because it was dark, and finally ended up at a little cabin, #3 in a row of 4. At this point I wanted to jump ship simply because I was “done” with all the unknown. The driving, heat and scary storm experience put me in a negative mindset. We weren’t entirely sure of what the cabin included so it was time to do an assessment. Lights, check! We even had a ceiling fan! Refrigerator, microwave, even AC. But …. no sink or toilet i.e., no running water ! Of course I bitched about it at the time because I was so pissed about having to walk all our gear to the cabin. Eventually I relaxed (adult beverage helped). The cabin wasn’t big but it was clean, didn’t look all that old, and had a small front porch with two Adirondack chairs. I slid myself into the chair and realized I had a completely unobstructed view of a lightning storm.
The next morning I got to appreciate the wide open view and check out our surroundings. It turns out there was a water pump just outside our cabin and the bathroom was up the hill, not a terrible distance. I was thankful for the AC because it made sleep more comfortable. So, we had “crossed the ocean,” completed the first part of our vacation. Not what I expected, but I have some amazing photos and memories. The adventure is not done! Next up is tent camping and even more rain ……
